Herbal Therapy

Nature's Wisdom & Nature's Medicine

Effective Treatment Uses

Health Optimization

Many of our pharmaceuticals have been derived from nature. One great example is aspirin. The healing mechanism of aspirin was taken from the natural occurring healing mechanism of Willow Bark. Willow bark is an anti-inflammatory used for pain, yet without the intestinal side effects of aspirin. However, aspirin is more potent, and thus there is a pro and con to both medicines. Just to name a few other healing herbs; Angelica root helps regulate hormone levels in women, Ashwagandha helps to regulate cortisol and sleep patterns; Astragalus regulates fasting glucose levels, etc. For many, herbal therapy can be a life saver, especially in those  who have found no relief from pharma or who prefer to integrate therapies or move towards natural healing.

As a research and health nerd, I love researching herbal treatments based in science as well as their traditional roots. Understanding the unique state of the patient's condition, as well as their health history, and medications they are currently taking, is a large part of prescribing herbal therapy here.

And Fremont Acupuncture isn't the only clinic in the U.S. enthusiastic about herbal medicine. Chinese herbal medicine is being used by some very famous and well-respected healthcare institutions such as Duke University, University of California San Francisco, Mayo Clinic, and many others.  In fact, Cleveland Clinic, which is ranked as one of the top hospitals in the world, now has a Chinese herbal dispensary in their Integrative outpatient clinic.
Through the millennia, different herbal substances have been so highly prized and sought-after for their health-bestowing properties that they were only consumed by Emperors and other royalty.  Chinese herbs such as Cordyceps and Ginseng were, and are worth their weight in gold.  A pound of Wild Tibetan Cordyceps can easily sell for $2,000 per pound, and often for much more.  The value in these herbal substances comes from their status as the "Superior herbs" (also known as Tonic herbs) of the Chinese pharmacopeia for they were believed to impart certain beneficial (and even mystical) properties on the people who consumed them.

Today, we know that many of these tonic herbs have adaptogenic properties and other benefits that aren't just useful for people who have specific disorders, but can be used to make us more resilient, energetic and vital in our daily lives.  Athletes commonly use these substances to boost athletic performance and reduce recovery times.  At one point, Chinese Olympic athletes were suspected of doping, but found only to be using Cordyceps.

Fortunately, these Tonic herbs are no longer only the domain of the Emperor or his royal court.  They can be used by anyone who would like to improve physical or intellectual performance, reduce and mange stress levels more effectively, to increase energy levels and immunity, etc.
